Inspiration: 5 things we can learn from interior designers

1.You can’t go wrong with black & white

Coco Chanel knew it, and so did Karl Lagerfeld: from fashion to interior design, black & white is a classic. The contrast allows endless variations and is never boring. This makes it a good choice all over the home: in the kitchen, bathroom or on the table. In the bathroom, white ceramic on black units – or vice versa – will add striking contrasts. On the table, Manufacture Rock and Manufacture Rock Blanc can be mixed & matched according to taste and mood. And even La Boule, a design object and a dinner set for two, looks sensational in black & white. Summary: experiment with different effects, it’s hard to go wrong with this combination!

2.Marble isn’t just for stately homes

Marble tends to conjure up visions of classical pillars, sweeping patios and stately en-trance halls. If your budget and available space don't stretch quite this far, you can al-ways scale things down a little. For example, a marble finish looks great on bathroom tiles, a worktop or unit front in the kitchen, and on coffee or side tables. A cool idea for all modern would-be princesses and princes: a marble-look To Go mug! As well as its sustainable credentials, it will also add a stylishly regal note to any coffee break.

3.Colour changes everything

Colour is an absolute magic wand when it comes to decorating your home. The design-er Gesa Hansen explains this phenomenon as follows: “Colour can change almost any-thing: the atmosphere, dimensions or definition of a room.” For Villeroy & Boch, the German-Danish designer, listed by Architectural Digest as one of the top 100 design-ers, designed the Artis surface-mounted washbasin in nine on-trend colours. And on the table, decors such as Amazonia and Avarua create a colourful and opulent look.

4.Out of the woods

Whether Scandi, Japandi or boho: the latest interior trends are all about natural looks. And almost no other material is as ubiquitous as wood: it can look cool or cosy, mod-ern or rustic. It also satisfies our desire for sustainability and a lifestyle in harmony with nature. Bathroom furniture in wood shades such as White Wood, Arizona Oak or Ulme Impresso conveys a sense of peace and relaxation. Unit fronts in light oak or red-dish walnut also make a kitchen look more homely. In the Artesano Original collec-tion, selected wooden accessories including serving plates, chopping boards and salad servers provide all the ingredients for natural enjoyment. Carefully prepared dishes made from natural produce will taste twice as good – ideally served in the garden or on the patio.

5.Show your room in the right light

A single large lamp in the middle of the room? An idea to make interior designers shudder. A far better solution is using several indirect light sources to add structure to the room. In the bathroom, units with wall lighting, illuminated shelves or strip handles with integrated LED lights provide atmospheric effects. As well as setting the mood, illuminated mirrors with a choice of light colours and brightness levels adapt flexibly to daily bathroom routines: from shaving in the morning to a relaxing bath in the even-ing. Final tip: illuminated cosmetics mirrors and dimmable table lamps are also availa-ble in battery versions. An ideal solution for atmospheric light effects even without a handy plug point.
