How to holiday at home – Summer staycation ideas

When the sun shines and the temperature rises to above 20 °C, that’s when we start longing for a holiday. We want to get away, experience something new and leave our cares behind. But what if it’s not possible to travel or to get time off work? Then all it takes is a few simple ideas and tricks to recreate that holiday feeling at home.

Holiday feeling on the table

Nothing takes us back to our last Mediterranean holiday faster than crockery with a pottery look: organic shapes, expressive colours and distinct surface finishes make us think of small fishing villages in the scorching midday heat. Paired with Mediterranean cuisine – be it homemade or ordered from a favourite restaurant – that holiday feeling is simply in the air.

Enjoy the weather

Temperature rising? Then it’s time to go out! Whether it’s breakfast on the balcony, lunch in the park, a barbecue on the patio or a candlelit dinner by moonlight: it’s all about eating and enjoying food outside. If there’s no balcony or patio, then the next best thing is a picnic by the lake. Or to leave all the windows wide open to bring the outside feeling inside. A small aperitif or a refreshing cocktail with summer fruits to top it off is all it takes to leave the everyday behind.

Travel to faraway lands with exotic flora

Cacti, succulents or eucalyptus – exotic foliage plants in matt white pots let our thoughts travel to southern climes. So off to the nearest garden centre to bring home some green. Be it the odd plant in a trendy vase or a mini plant world in different planters – green plants will turn any home into an oasis of calm and relaxation.
