“Best of the Best”: Exquisite drinking glasses from the MetroChic collection win Red Dot Design Award

Villeroy & Boch is delighted at winning another renowned Red Dot Design Award. The glasses from the MetroChic collection impressed the jury in the “Best of the Best” category.

MetroChic is a timelessly elegant Villeroy & Boch Signature collection that contains crockery, cutlery and gifts. Boasting a clear and distinct design, the MetroChic Glass drinking glasses were developed for 2020 and accentuate the elegance of MetroChic.

The new glasses from the MetroChic collection are handmade with crystal glass. The glasses are formally understated, yet their opulent bowls give them a striking and stylish look. The large surfaces allow wine and spirits to develop their fine aromas in the fuller bowls, which taper upwards slightly. The high, very fine stems and the extremely thin glass make the red and white wine glasses as well as champagne flutes appear very delicate. “Straight lines and precise radii come together to create a well-balanced and very graceful expression. The resulting elegance and slendernesss make the collection stand out,” according to the jury’s verdict in the Red Dot Design Yearbook 2020/2021.

MetroChic – An elegant collection with an Art Deco attitude

Thanks to its clear design, MetroChic Glass perfectly complements the Art Deco pattern gracing the MetroChic crockery collection: geometric black and gold shapes on pure white Premium Bone Porcelain open up a wide range of combinations for an individual look. The hand-polished, 20-carat gold finish is protected by the innovative “Inglaze Gold” technology.

Red Dot Award: Product Design 2020

The Red Dot Award is regarded as one of the most important design awards in the world. Designers and companies submitted more than 6,500 products to the competition in 2020, a record high. Roughly 40 experts in the jury awarded just 76 products with the highest distinction, i.e. the “Red Dot: Best of the Best”. This year’s award-winning products will be presented in the online exhibition on the Red Dot website. Moreover, they will be on display at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany, and featured in the Red Dot Design Yearbook 2020/2021.
