Amazonia – The exotic world of the Amazon in fascinating décors

Amazonia. That is the name of the extravagant collection by Villeroy & Boch, a col-lection inspired by the fantastic world of the Amazon. Since adventurers and explorers the likes of Alexander von Humboldt or Charles Darwin began setting out for Central and South America in the late 18th and early 19th centuries to discover and investigate native flora and fauna there, people in Europe have had a fascination with the unbelievably diverse and colorful plant and animal world of the Amazon region. As a result, South America was stylized to a kind of botanical and zoological paradise. What’s more: the colorful blossoms, the luxuriant vegetation and the rich variety of exotic species of animal made their way into European culture, where they remain familiar motifs in works of art and decorative objects to this day.

Against this backdrop, Villeroy & Boch has created with Amazonia a high quality collection, made of the finest Premium Bone Porcelain: exotic décor motifs, have now received a contemporary interpretation and have been generously transposed to objects in porcelain. Each item of the Amazonia collection tells its own, self-contained story and presents a most aesthetically appealing composition depicting the animal and plant kingdom of the Amazon. These, true-to-life natural motifs, lovingly executed down to the smallest detail, are the result of extensive study of the animals and plants selected for the collection: breathtakingly beautiful hummingbirds and colorful heliconius butterflies, mesmerizingly blue passion flowers, yellow orchids and the red blossoms of the calliandra shrub are rendered so vividly in their urgent colorfulness and luminosity that they almost seem three-dimensional.
