A series of awards for TwistFlush Prestigious accolades for the vortex-powered toilet flushing system

More power, less water. Shortly after its market launch, Villeroy & Boch’s TwistFlush system is already making a strong impression at prestigious competitions. In 2021, the water-saving flush technology has won a Red Dot Design Award, the German Innovation Award and the Architecture + Technology Innovation Award (Innovationspreis Architektur + Technik). TwistFlush therefore more than fulfils its function and represents a real toilet hygiene innovation designed to make daily life easier, more sustainable and better.

Red Dot Design Award for universal design

At the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021, TwistFlush was awarded one of the coveted red dots. The jury of international experts at this prestigious competition with a reputation extending far beyond German borders evaluated all entries according to criteria including degree of innovation, functionality, formal quality, durability and ecological compatibility. TwistFlush impressed with both its universal design and its benefits in terms of hygiene and sustainability. The jury’s verdict: “This toilet combines a modern design with exceptionally sustainable and hygienic functional details.”

Gold in the German Innovation Award

TwistFlush took gold, the very highest distinction, in the German Innovation Award, presented for the fourth time this year by the German Design Council, one of the world’s leading competence centres for communication and brand management in design. The German Innovation Award is presented to pioneering products from different industry sectors that offer real added value for the user in comparison with existing solutions. The jury’s decision to award the “Excellence in Business to Consumer” distinction to TwistFlush in the “Heating & Bathroom” category was based on the fact that the toilet “impresses with two interesting features which combine to provide a thorough flush. Firstly, the conical shape of the bowl makes it difficult for dirt particles to adhere to the steep and extremely smooth walls, and secondly, the patent-pending TwistFlush solution creates a controlled water vortex in the conical bowl that ensures thorough removal of waste.

The powerful flush also uses less water, which makes the technology even more attractive.”

Architecture + Technology Innovation Award

This opinion was shared by the jury of the Architecture + Technology Innovation Award, awarded for the 22nd time this year by the architecture trade journals AIT and XIA by AIT in cooperation with the fair Frankfurt. The prize is awarded to innovative products and solutions in the fields of sanitary technology and ceramics, heating and air conditioning, home and building automation and surfaces. It is regarded as a measure as to whether an innovation meets the needs of architects, planners and interior designers, and combines impressive design and innovation with economic performance.

The TwistFlush principle: how it works

The TwistFlush technology uses the physical power of a controlled water vortex to flush almost the entire inner surface of the toilet and remove waste. The conically shaped bowl also makes it difficult for waste to adhere to the surfaces. This generally eliminates the need for repeated flushing or tiresome cleaning with a brush. The toilet only needs 4.5 litres for a large flush and a mere 3 litres for a small one. A family of four can therefore save up to 19,700* litres of water a year – with a flushing performance that significantly exceeds the current standard requirements**.

*4-person household, compared to a standard 6-litre flush. Average use: 5 x per day/per person, based on data from the Umweltbundesamt Deutschland (German Environment Agency).

** In accordance with the European EN 997 standard.
