A dream bathroom under the roof: Clever ideas for every space scenario

Does your bathroom have a sloping ceiling? On closer inspection, what at first appears to be a challenge can actually be a great opportunity to design a real dream bathroom. Because in the bathroom, floor space matters more than the number of cubic centimetres. The golden rule to make optimum use of the available space: position everything that needs height under the slope. The bath is a perfect candidate – especially if the ceiling has a skylight with a view of nature. The space under a sloping ceiling is also ideal for low cabinets and other storage solutions. This leaves areas with more height free to maximise the space for the washbasin and shower.

An adaptable shower tray
Ceiling height is particularly important for the shower and a model integrated flush in the floor adds valuable centimetres. A front wall can often be useful to extend the shower out from the sloping ceiling into the room. For challenging floor plans, a shower tray that can be cut to custom sizes is an ideal solution – for example, Villeroy & Boch’s Squaro Infinity shower tray that can accommodate even corners, pillars or projections. In combination with coordinating tiles, a walk-in shower creates the impression of a consistent floor surface that also makes small bathrooms feel more spacious.

The right bath for every bathroom

If your bathroom has a skylight, the space below this is ideal for a bath. A bathroom with a sloping ceiling offers a unique opportunity to enjoy a relaxing bath while gazing up at the starry sky. If space is limited, you need a bath that will fit flexibly in any corner. Villeroy & Boch offers ideal solutions with built-in baths in dimensions starting from just 1.40 x 0.70 metres. The selection also includes freestanding baths that can be positioned under a sloping ceiling. The Theano bath is available in lengths starting from 1.55 metres. Another very compact option is the Finion bath which offers lots of space to relax thanks to its straight walls. A back-to-wall bath is an interesting alternative: this looks similar to a freestanding bath but it is installed beside a wall or in a corner and therefore takes up very little space. It is available in a wide selection of designs in series including Collaro, Loop & Friends or Oberon 2.0.

Mirrors for space and brightness

One particularly simple tip to make the bathroom appear light and spacious is careful use of mirrors. The More To See Lite illuminated mirror is available in a wide selection of shapes and sizes and is a real highlight with its puristic design. An illuminated LED border provides indirect light from all sides with continuously adjustable brightness and colour.
