Villeroy & Boch celebrates 275th company anniversary
275 years of Villeroy & Boch. Hardly any other premium brand with a global reputation can look back on a comparable history and lasting success. On the way from a small craft business founded in 1748 to an international group, Villeroy & Boch has transformed from a production-oriented ceramicist to a comprehensive lifestyle provider. Today, the brand uses its products to design and shape its customers' homes around the world.
275 years of Villeroy & Boch reflect a unique company history and constantly proving itself in the challenges of time. Challenges from political and societal changes, from the dynamism of market conditions, from the development of technology. New procedures, material formulations, colours and shapes have taken hold, while ceramic as a durable natural product remains at the centre of the company.
While the founding fathers François Boch and Nicolas Villeroy still had a regional focus when they merged in 1836, Villeroy & Boch has developed into a global player in the continued course of the company history. Pots and bowls: The first products were simple household commodities. Today, 275 years later, Villeroy & Boch uses its diverse offering to create holistically designed spaces and worlds of style that reflect the attitude towards life of its customers around the world. Today Villeroy & Boch is represented in 125 countries. Internationality and diversity can also be seen in the workforce: 6,400 employees from 81 countries work worldwide for Villeroy & Boch.
“Innovative and demand-driven, both offline as well as online, Villeroy & Boch as a brand is represented with its products and services everywhere our customers are today”, says Frank Göring, who has been managing the globally operating public company as CEO since 2007. Since its founding days, the company’s management has been driven to constantly evolve the company to keep up with the times. Quality and market orientation as well as the conscious decision to industrialise and digitally orient the company at an early stage: Villeroy & Boch is always re-inventing itself, shaping the market and is among the pioneers in the industry.
275 Years Creating Homes
275 years of Villeroy & Boch, which is also 275 years of home. Since 1748, Villeroy & Boch has been creating high-quality porcelain for everyone and has thus not only made a decisive contribution to the democratisation of the bathroom, but also to the home culture in general. Combined with an unmistakable feeling for design, which is simultaneously revolutionary and yet timeless - and always has the stuff to be a classic. The bathroom has long not been just a sanitary room any longer, but rather a feel-good oasis. While in the past it was complete crockery sets, today it is a diverse product portfolio that not only makes the table setting more beautiful, but also the entire house with living accessories and gift items.
“Villeroy & Boch realised at an early stage the value of the home to people”, says Frank Göring, “and therefore shaped the vision that we are pursuing today: making houses into homes”. No matter whether it’s in your own four walls or on a trip around the world, you feel at home wherever Villeroy & Boch is.
The 2023 Anniversary Year
“275 years of Villeroy & Boch, that is heritage and future at the same time”, emphasises Frank Göring. “We are proud of this special company anniversary and look forward to celebrating it together with our employees, customers and partners worldwide and to continuing to write our success story”.
In the anniversary year, both company divisions will present very special product highlights. With “Hommage to Hommage”, Bathroom & Wellness is launching a new edition of the successful bathroom collection, whose traditional Victorian forms are shown in the trendy new colour ‘Nero’. Two popular classics are getting together in the kitchen: The white butler sink with a version of the known alt Luxembourg decor adapted by designer Gesa Hansen. Dining & Lifestyle is presenting a new La Boule: The successful reinterpretation of Helen von Boch’s “Die Kugel” [The Sphere] from the 1970s was designed with a reinterpretation of the classic copperplate decor Paradiso for the anniversary. A sensational piece for the anniversary that is only available in a limited edition.
275 years of Villeroy & Boch: in addition to products and innovations, these years in particular mean people and emotions that are closely linked to the company. Famous people, including artists such as Helmut Newton and design legends such as Luigi Colani, adorn the company’s history. On the occasion of the anniversary, Villeroy & Boch is revealing exciting, humorous and sometimes surprising insights behind the curtains of the company and its history in “275 Stories”.
