5 Tableware Trends for the Autumn and Winter Season: How Autumn Tables Welcome Us Back Indoors
As terraces empty and evenings draw in, the table moves back inside – and with it, the way we set it changes too. Where summer favoured ease and spontaneity, the colder months call for a slower, more considered approach to hosting. For the shift from al fresco to indoor dining, here are five directions shaping tables this season, from carried-over summer textures to the return of formal white porcelain.
1. Carry the Summer Mood into the Colder Months
Not every summer habit needs to end with the season. Rustic stoneware, once reserved for garden dinners, finds a second life indoors when paired with autumnal colour. The Lave collection, with its four different shades and reactive glaze, works particularly well here: its earthy tones absorb candlelight rather than reflecting it, giving dark-plate settings a grounded, tactile quality. Styled with berries, pine sprigs or copper-toned leaves, it becomes a natural bridge between two seasons.
2. Bring Autumn Warmth to the Table with Fleur
Colour plays a bigger role once summer brightness fades. The Fleur collection, with its floral inspired pattern in the shades soleil, cassis, bleu and vert, picks up the warm palette of the late-summer season. Placed alongside beech leaves in copper and gold tones, the porcelain's rounded shapes and soft colours feel less like a summer leftover and more like a considered nod to the changing light outside.
3. Return to Elegant Porcelain
Once dinners move from the terrace to the dining room, table settings tend to become more formal again – a gesture of care towards guests rather than a display of formality for its own sake. White porcelain remains the most reliable choice for this shift, and its shapes are evolving. Pura translates this idea into soft, fluid silhouettes: plates and bowls with gently irregular edges that catch light unevenly, giving a classic white service a more contemporary read.
4. Play with Texture Instead of Colour
A second current direction keeps the palette neutral but introduces contrast through surface and touch: For example, Manufacture Ice combines a matte, frosted exterior with a glossy interior, so the same plate offers two distinct sensations under the hand – cool and textured on the outside, smooth and reflective within. This interplay of finishes offers a concrete example of how porcelain can be interesting even without a pattern.
5. Let Decoration Carry the Seasonal Mood
With dinners moving indoors, decoration takes on more weight in creating a sense of comfort. Ribbed glass vases from the Fleur range hold dried or fresh autumn stems – ochre branches, thistle heads, late-season blooms – letting their ribbed surface catch and scatter light across the table. La Boule Kyoto as more than decoration: This spherical tableware set for two, with its hand-decorated surface pattern in warm colours, makes it equally suited as a standalone object or as the base for an intimate table setting for two, giving small autumn dinners a focal point without additional styling.
